ProRider Bicycle Helmets Recalled Over Injured Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (March 15, 2026) – ProRider Bicycle Helmets for children have been recalled because they can pose a serious risk of injury and death to users.

The recall was issued on March 12, 2026. Roughly 9546 prior to the recall. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled helmets violate mandatory safety standards.

In particular, the helmets do not comply with impact attenuation and certification requirements. Accordingly, the helmets may fail to protect users in the event they crash.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The helmets were originally manufactured in China.

Liability for Accidents Involving Defective Bicycle Helmets

Companies that manufactured bicycle helmets have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must follow all health and safety guidelines for helmets. If a company fails to follow mandatory safety guidelines and this results in someone being injured, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There are many ways that a bicycle helmet may be defective.

  • A bicycle helmet may lack sufficient impact-absorbing foam.
  • A bicycle helmet may have chin straps that are prone to detaching.
  • A bicycle helmet may lack instructions about proper strap adjustment.

There are many ways that a consumer product could be considered defective so as to give rise to a product liability claim. For product liability claims based on negligence, many attorneys will argue that some consumer products have design defects. Design defects are inherent to a product and exist before it is manufactured.

Steps to Take After Injuries Involving Defective Bicycle Helmets

Many people are seriously injured or killed every year in bicycle accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Each year, nearly 1,000 bicyclists die on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle. There are also an estimated 120,000 emergency department visits of bicyclists treated for non-fatal crash-related injuries annually.” This is why it is so important that bicycle helmets function as intended. Multiple steps should be taken after any accident involving a defective bicycle helmet.

  • All of the evidence associated with the product should be preserved.
  • It should be determined if the bicycle helmet was on any recall lists.
  • Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident with a defective consumer product. People will often blame themselves when they are injured. But the fact of the matter is that many accidents involving consumer products are preventable. They are typically the results of major safety lapses. Any person injured by a defective consumer product may be able to pursue damages for a product liability claim. Damages in a civil claim can cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
