RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 21-Degree Framing Nailer Recalled Over Injury Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 12, 2025) – TTI Consumer Power Tools has issued a recall for its RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 21-Degree Framing Nailers after learning the devices can cause laceration injuries.

The recall was issued on July 31, 2025. Roughly 64,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the dual-action engagement system on the RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 21-Degree Framing Nailers may malfunction and inadvertently release a nail without pulling the trigger.

This can cause serious injuries for consumers and bystanders. When this device is functioning as intended, a nail should only be released after both the workpiece is depressed and the nail trigger is pulled.

The devices could be bought at numerous retailers, including Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores.

Common Causes of Accidents Involving Home Improvement Tools

Injuries involving power tools are unfortunately quite common. According to the BHHC Safety Center, “Every year in the U.S., power tool injuries result in approximately 400,000 emergency room visits, including both work and non-work-related incidents. More than 22,000 of these power tool accidents involve workers using nail guns.” There are many reasons that these tools may injure users.

  • Missing or Disabled Safety Guards: Power tools are much more likely to injure users when they lack trigger locks or other protective devices designed to prevent inadvertent use.
  • Electrical Shock: Damaged cords on power tools can create a serious risk of electrocution.
  • Kickback: Power tools can seriously injure users if they suddenly recoil, which can throw the tool back at the user.

Workers should have adequate training and personal protective equipment anytime they’re using power tools or heavy machinery. The vast majority of accidents involving tools can be prevented. But in certain circumstances, these accidents are the result of defects with the tools themselves.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Home Improvement Tools

Companies that create power tools have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. These companies must take into consideration all of the ways that their products could be used and even misused. When power tools lack required safety features, this could create the basis of a product liability claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any accident involving power tools.

  • All medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • The product involved in the accident should be stored in a safe location where it is not likely to cause further harm.
  • It should be determined if the power tools were part of any recall.
  • Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.

It can be difficult to know what to do after any injury involving power tools. The companies that manufacture these tools will virtually never accept responsibility for any injuries. It is more likely that they will blame the victims for what happened. This is why it is so important that accident victims seek the guidance of an experienced attorney after any injury involving power tools.
