Liability For Marion Car Accidents
Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the IIHS, “There were 42,514 deaths from motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2022. This corresponds to 12.8 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.33 deaths per 100 million miles traveled. The fatality rate per 100,000 people ranged from 4.8 in the District of Columbia and Rhode Island to 23.9 in Mississippi.” Drivers should take a number of measures in order to prevent vehicle collisions.
- Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns in the roadway.
- Drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.
- Drivers should slow down in areas with pedestrians nearby.
All drivers have a legal obligation to operate their vehicle in a reasonably safe manner. They must obey all traffic regulations. This includes operating their vehicle at a safe speed. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
Many of the injuries associated with car accidents are not immediately obvious. For example, many victims of serious collisions suffer from long-term psychological injuries, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Sadly, though, drivers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if they are involved in a collision. This is why it is so important that accident victims seek legal support as early as possible.
