Liability for Bloomington House Fires
Residential fires remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Today’s homes burn faster than ever. Experts say you may have less than 3 minutes (or even less) to safely escape a typical home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. According to NFPA, in 2021, local fire departments responded to more than 1.3 million fires; 75 percent of all fire deaths were caused by home fires.” There are a number of common causes of home fires.
- Cooking accidents
- Lithium-ion battery explosions
- Space heaters
- Gas explosions
Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for a residential fire. This includes the company that manufactured a consumer product. Many fires are caused by consumer products that have defective wiring. If a defect with a product contributed to a deadly fire, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. This is why it is so important that the circumstances that contributed to any home fire are properly understood.
