Wolfgang Puck Stainless Steel Petite Tea Kettles Recalled Due to Burn Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 15, 2025) – Synergy Housewares has issued a recall for the Wolfgang Puck Stainless Steel Petite Tea Kettles sold on HSN because they can cause burn injuries.

The recall was issued on August 14, 2025. Roughly 40,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the kettle’s infuser basket can be loose and fall. This could lead to serious burn injuries.

Synergy Housewares has received 10 reports of the kettle lids coming off. This has led to an estimated five injuries.

The Wolfgang Puck Stainless Steel Petite Tea Kettles were originally manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Every company that sells consumer goods must take reasonable precautions to prevent those products from becoming dangerous. They must adhere to all industry safety standards and rigorously test their products. These companies must also take into consideration all of the ways that their product could potentially be used and even misused. There are many potential defects with a consumer product that could give rise to a product liability claim.

  • Manufacturing Defects: A consumer product may develop defects during the manufacturing process that prevent it from functioning as intended.
  • Design Defects: A consumer product may have design defects if it is inherently dangerous to use as intended.
  • Marketing Defects: A consumer product may have marketing defects if it lacks adequate warnings about latent dangers.

A product liability claim can be advanced on many different grounds. Some claims are based on negligence. Other claims can be based on strict liability or breach of warranty. This will generally depend on the jurisdiction in which any claim is advanced. For strict liability claims, a defendant can be liable for a defective product, regardless of what their intent may have been.

Reasons That Products May Be Defective

Injuries involving consumer products are incredibly common. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “In 2020, an estimated 28,535,000 people sought medical attention for an injury related to, but not necessarily caused by, a consumer product. This is a decrease of more than 7.7 million (21 percent) from the 2019 estimate.” There are many factors that could contribute to a product becoming dangerous or defective.

  • Cut Corners: Manufacturers may choose to cut corners in terms of the materials or build quality of their product.
  • Testing: Manufacturers may fail to rigorously test their products in all of the real-world scenarios that they are likely to be used in.
  • Imports: Items may be imported from countries or regions that have substantially more lenient safety standards in certain areas.

The vast majority of accidents and injuries involving consumer products are preventable. Many people blame themselves if they or a loved one are injured while using a consumer product. But the fact of the matter is that many of these incidents can be avoided when safety regulations are followed. Any person that is injured while using a consumer product may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
