Manufacturing had an injury and illness a rate of 6.6 cases per 100 equivalent full-time workers, down from 6.8 a year earlier.” The following manufacturing industries tend to have the highest incident rates.

When a worker is injured on the job in Illinois, they will typically have recourse through the worker’s compensation system. Worker’s compensation  in Illinois is a no-fault insurance scheme. An injured worker does not have to demonstrate liability in order to receive benefits. Damages can help cover medical bills as well as lost wages. Depending on the specific facts of any case, an injured worker may be able to receive additional benefits through a third party liability claim.

A third party liability claim may be possible when an entity separate from a worker’s employer contributed to an accident. For example, many workers in the manufacturing fields are injured by machinery. If the piece of machinery that injured them was defective or deficient in some way, the manufacturer of that machinery could be held at fault. Companies have a legal responsibility to create machines and products that are reasonably safe. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any industrial accident.

  • The injured worker should receive treatment as early as possible.
  • Their employer should be informed of the incident.
  • Evidence should be preserved.
  • A thorough, independent investigation should be conducted.

Any injured worker may be able to seek aid through a personal injury claim. Damages can help with lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, insurance companies will often fight hard to deny any responsibility for an accident. An Illinois personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
