Motorcycle and Truck Collide

Over the past two days, there have been two horrific collisions between motorcycles and trucks. During the summer months, motorcycle riding increases and it is essential that everyone be aware of their surroundings while on the road.
Below are two accounts in the last two days of a collision between motorcyclists and trucks on I-80.

Illinois State Police said that a woman passenger from Joliet was killed Saturday night when the driver of a motorcycle collided with the right front corner of a semi-truck. The collision caused the driver to lose control. State Police Master Sergeant Fred Rivera said that the condition of the motorcycle driver is unknown, though he was taken to a local hospital. The initial investigation suggests that the truck was in the far right lane of westbound I-80, while the motorcycle entered the interstate from the southbound Harlem Avenue ramp. It is unknown as to why the collision occurred, but the motorcycle hit the right, front corner of the semi-truck causing the driver to lose control.

Why are Motorcycles Dangerous?

Motorcycles are smaller than cars and trucks, and they offer much less protection to riders. The specific attributes of motorcycles make them less visible to cars and trucks, more susceptible to road hazards, and have less stability due to only having two wheels. It is far more risky for a motorcycle to be on the road, than a car or truck. With increased motorcycle riding due to the warm weather, it is important that everyone drive carefully and watch out for all other drivers on the road.
