When Should I Get a Workers Comp Lawyer?

Question:

Was lifting cases of antifreeze and restacking them two years ago at work when I injured my right shoulder. I have had two surgeries to try and correct this and I am getting ready to go and have my third surgery, to correct it. I am just fed up and don’t know what to do anymore.
I lost four and a half months of work and workers comp as you know doesn’t give you enough to live on. When should you get a lawyer?

Answer:

You have a difficult situation, Cheryl. Every time a shoulder surgery is performed, the chances of success are diminished. The shoulder is the most complicated joint in the body. This is because it is uniquely capable of movement in multiple directions, unlike the other joints.
I see more failed shoulder surgeries than any other. Most doctors have trouble with them (though they won’t admit it). If I were to get a shoulder surgery, I would insist on seeing a orthopedic surgeon who specializes in and ONLY does shoulder surgeries and only treats shoulders. A specialist’s specialist is a requirement.
If your concerned for the future of your shoulder, be very careful. A third shoulder surgery is rarely successful. If you can’t find such a surgeon, a good Workers Comp lawyer will be able to tell you who the best are.
