Liability for Bronzeville CTA Bus Accidents
CTA buses in Illinois are considered common carriers. They must operate with a great deal of caution to protect the well-being of their passengers. To that end, buses must follow other vehicles at a safe distance and maintain a safe speed at all times. Bus drivers should take a number of actions to avoid colliding with other vehicles.
- Bus drivers should be well rested before the beginning of their shift.
- Bus drivers should take periodic breaks throughout the course of the day.
- Bus drivers should check their blind spots before making turns at an intersection.
- Bus drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards.
If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. The private employer or municipal entity a bus driver worked for could also be held at fault for a crash. As a general rule, employers in the state of Illinois can be held vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who are operating within the scope of their job duties.
