AliExpress Issues Recall for Multi Styler Hair Dryer Due to Shock and Injury Hazard
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (February 13, 2025) – AliExpress has issued a recall for 6-in-1 Multi Styler and 5-in-1 Multi Styler Hair Dryers because they can inadvertently shock users.
The recall was issued on January 30, 2025. Roughly 1000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the hair dryer lacks an immersion protection device. If the user falls into water while the device is plugged in, they could be seriously injured or killed in an electrocution.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
Liability for Electrocutions Involving Hair Dryers
Prior to modern safety standards, a number of people were seriously injured or killed in electrocutions while using hairdryers. Immersion protection devices have been critical in saving lives. According to one study in the National Institute of Health, “After controlling for covariates, the immersion protection requirements were estimated to reduce the rate of hair dryer immersion electrocution deaths by 96.6% (95% CI, 90.8% to 98.8%). This suggests the prevention of about 280 immersion electrocution deaths involving hair dryers during the post-intervention period (1987-2007).” Electrocutions can cause very serious injuries.
- Victims often suffer major burn injuries throughout their bodies. These are often caused by heat from electric arcs.
- Electrocutions can often lead to very major neurological injuries as well. This can include nerve damage and seizures due to disruptions of brain activity.
- It is also common for electrocutions to cause serious injuries to a person’s heart. An electrocution could cause an arrhythmia or damage to a person’s blood vessels.
Given the major injuries associated with electrical hazards, it is critical that product manufacturers do everything in their power to protect against them. For companies that make hair dryers, it is necessary that they include immersion protection devices. Failing to include this device in a hair dryer could form the basis of a strict product liability claim if a consumer is injured. It is important that several steps are taken after any injury involving a consumer product.
- It should be determined if the product involved was on any recall list.
- The device involved in the accident should be preserved so that it can be examined later.
- Medical records related to the incident should be collected.
- An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.
It can be hard to know where to begin if you’ve been injured by a consumer product. Many victims blame themselves. But the fact of the matter is that many incidents involving consumer products are avoidable and due to faulty product designs. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have legal options. They are able to seek damages through a personal injury claim. If you’ve been injured by a consumer product, a product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case free of cost and let you know if you have a claim that can be pursued.
