Belkin MMA008 Portable Wireless Charging Stand Recall Over Fire Hazard

Belkin Issues Recall for MMA008 Portable Wireless Charging Stand Due to Fire and Burn Injury Hazard

Belkin MMA008 Portable Wireless Charging Stand Recall Over Fire Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 25, 2025) – Belkin MMA008 Portable Wireless Charging Stands have been recalled because they pose a fire and burn hazard for consumers.

The recall is issued on November 13, 2025. Roughly 83,500 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the lithium-ion battery in the power banks may overheat. This can lead to them catching fire or potentially burning consumers.

Affected consumers should not throw the lithium-ion battery or device in the trash, since this creates an additional hazard. Belkin has received one report of a fire started by the device.

There have also been two reports of burn injuries and property damage outside of the United States. The Belkin MMA008 Portable Wireless Charging Stand was sold at numerous retailers, including Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.

Liability for Fires Started by Lithium-Ion Batteries

Companies that create products with lithium-ion batteries have a legal obligation to ensure that these devices are reasonably safe. There are many known potential safety issues with lithium-ion batteries. Among other things, these devices may overheat and lead to fires. A product with lithium-ion batteries may have several types of defects that could contribute to a fire.

  • These batteries may contain metal particles or other contaminants that are introduced during assembly.
  • These batteries may have misaligned separators that lead to unintended contact between anodes and cathodes.
  • These batteries may have a compromised casing with either dents or punctures.
  • These batteries may have poor welds that lead them to fail under various conditions.

If a company produces a product with any type of defect, they could be held liable for resulting injuries through a product liability claim. Product liability claims are typically considered a strict liability offense. In other words, a manufacturer could still be liable for a consumer’s injuries, even if they exercised a great deal of care to create a safe product. Victims may be able to recover damages through a product liability claim.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Consumer Products

Products with lithium-ion batteries are the source of many serious fires every year. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Since 2022, New York City has experienced more than 800 fires sparked by lithium-ion batteries, leading to 30 deaths and more than 400 injuries.” Any person harmed by a lithium-ion battery fire should take several measures.

  • Report: The incident should be reported to the manufacturer so that there is a record of what happened.
Treatment: Victims should seek treatment and keep a copy of all of their medical records.
  • Legal Support: Any person injured by a consumer product should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.

It can be difficult to know where to begin if you’ve been injured by a consumer product. Many people may blame themselves and think that they did something wrong. But the fact of the matter is that many accidents with consumer products involve designed defects. Victims may be able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a personal injury claim.
