CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (April 28, 2026) – Casely Wireless Portable Power Banks have been recalled because they can pose a serious risk of injury or death.

This is the second time that Casely has issued a recall for their Wireless Portable Power Banks. The announcement comes after one person died in a fire tied to the units.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled lithium batteries inside of the power banks can potentially overheat and ignite. This creates a major injury risk to consumers.

Roughly 429,000 units were sold prior to the recall. In addition to the death, Casely has received 51 reports of the batteries in the power banks overheating.

Liability for Accidents Caused by Power Banks

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. This is particularly important for companies that make products with lithium-ion batteries. It has been known for a long time that lithium-ion batteries can overheat and catch fire. There are a number of different defects that lithium-ion batteries can have that may allow them to catch fire.

  • These batteries could have manufacturing flaws due to contamination that causes internal short circuits.
  • These batteries may have defective separator materials.
  • These batteries may have faulty heat regulation systems.

If a product has defects that make it more likely to malfunction, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are a number of ways that a product could potentially be considered defective. For example, a product may lack sufficient warnings about non-obvious dangers. Companies must adequately warn consumers about the hazards associated with their products.

Steps to Take After Accidents Caused by Power Banks

A huge portion of fires and injuries have been caused by products with faulty batteries. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Since 2022, New York City has experienced more than 800 fires sparked by lithium-ion batteries, leading to 30 deaths and more than 400 injuries. Lithium-ion batteries have been the third-leading cause of accidental fires across New York City in each of the past two years, trailing only electrical wiring and smoking.” Certain steps should be taken after any accident involving power banks.

  • All of the medical records related to the accident should be sought.
  • It should be determined if the product involved was on any recall lists.
  • Victims should seek the legal guidance of a team experienced in product liability law.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident involving power banks. Fires can leave cities with catastrophic injuries. To make matters worse, companies will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their products causes a serious injury. This is why it is so important that accidents involving defective products are investigated by an outside party. Victims are able to seek some measure of accountability through a product liability claim.
