Conair Expands Recall of Cuisinart Grill Brushes Due to Major Injury Hazard

Over 3.6 Million Triple Bristle Grill Cleaning Brush Have Been Recalled After Reports of Multiple Injuries

.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 2, 2026) – Conair has chosen to expand the recall of its popular Cuisinart Grill Brushes because they pose a major injury risk due to ingestion hazard.

The recall was issued on August 27, 2026. Conair previously recalled about 1.7 million brushes in July 2026. This new recall of an additional 1.9 million brushes brings the total number to 3.6 million.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the major problem with the Cuisinart Grill Brushes is that metal bristles can become detached and stick into the grill or food.

This poses the major risk that a person could ingest those small bristles, thereby causing them to sustain serious internal injuries that may even require surgery.

The manufacturer is aware of 54 reports where the small wire bristles detached. This led to three incidents where consumers who swallowed the metal bristles had to seek medical treatment to remove them.

The products were sold at a variety of different stores, including Walmart, TJ Maxx, Ross, Burlington, Amazon, and Cuisinart.com.

Liability for Injuries Involving Defective Consumer Products

Companies that manufacture goods in the United States have a legal obligation to create products that are reasonably safe. When a company creates a product that is defective or unreasonably dangerous, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Product liability claims asserting negligence will typically fall into one of three categories. A product may have design defects that are inherent in the way it was designed. A product may have manufacturing defects that occur during the creation of the product. A company may also fail to warn about the hazards associated with their product. Several questions can help determine whether or not any product was actually defective or unreasonably dangerous.

  • What was the condition of the product at the time it was sold to the consumer?
  • Were safer design choices available to the manufacturer?
  • Did the product come with sufficient warnings and instructions related to foreseeable hazards?
  • Was the product compliant with all state and federal safety guidelines?

When a manufacturer creates a product that is unreasonably dangerous, they could be held strictly liable for any resulting injuries. Consider, for example, Calles v. Scripto-Tokai Corp., 224 Ill. 2d 247 (Illinois Supreme Court 2007). That case involved a three year-old that used a utility lighter to accidentally start a house fire. The fire resulted in the death of another child. The Illinois Supreme Court explained that a product can be evaluated under both the consumer expectation test, and the risk-utility test to determine whether it is unreasonably, dangerous, or defective.

How an Attorney Can Help After Being Injured By a Consumer Product

Millions of people are injured in preventable accidents involving consumer products every year. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 15.1 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe.” There are a number of different ways that an attorney can help any person injured by defective consumer product.

  • An attorney can help preserve all the evidence associated with your accident.
  • An attorney can determine if the product involved was actually defective.
  • An attorney can handle all negotiations with the manufacturer and their insurance provider.
  • An attorney can settle your case for a fair amount that takes into consideration all of the damages you’ve incurred.

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of hiring an attorney is that they work entirely on a contingency fee basis. This means that they do not take any money upfront. Instead, they get paid entirely by the opposing party if they are able to successfully resolve your claim. Any person that is injured by a defective consumer product should at least consider their options with an attorney. They can let you know how much compensation you may be entitled to.

Getting Legal Help After Accidents Involving Defective Consumer Products

It could be difficult to know where to begin after being injured by any consumer product. Many victims will need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They may also be burdened with high medical bills. Unfortunately, manufacturers and their insurance providers are not likely to accept responsibility. This is why it is so important that these incidents are independently investigated.
