Crate & Barrel Recalls Ana Dining Chairs Recalled Due to Injury Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 18, 2025) – Crate & Barrel has issued a recall for their Ana Dining Chairs because they can pose a risk of major injury if users fall from them.

The recall was issued on October 30, 2025. Roughly 54,930 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the legs on the chairs may inadvertently break and allow the user to fall to the ground.

Crate & Barrel has received 149 reports of the legs on the Ana Dining Chairs breaking. This led to 10 incidents where a person sustained injuries to their head, back, arms, or face.

The chairs were originally manufactured in China.

Liability for Accidents Involving Consumer Products

Millions of people are injured every year in accidents involving consumer products. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 15.1 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe.” There are many ways that a consumer product may be defective.

  • Design Defects: A consumer product may have design defects. These are inherent to the way products exist and are present before they are manufactured.
  • Manufacturing Defects: A consumer product may have manufacturing defects. These are defects created during the production or creation of a product.
  • Marketing Defects: A consumer product may have marketing defects. A marketing defect may be present if a company fails to warn about the latent dangers associated with the use of their product.

Product liability claims are often pursued as a strict liability offense. A defendant will typically be liable for a plaintiff’s injury if the plaintiff is able to prove that the product was defective. This is true regardless of the intent of the defendant. They will still be liable even if the manufacturer exercised a great deal of care to create a safe product.

Injuries Associated With Falls

Falls are one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Each year, there are about 1 million fall-related hospitalizations among older adults. In 2019, 83% percent of hip fracture deaths and 88% of emergency department visits and hospitalizations for hip fractures were caused by falls.” Falls can leave people with major injuries.

  • Broken Bones: A large portion of people who fall sustain bone fractures. These are particularly common in a person’s wrist and hip.
  • Head Injuries: Depending on how a person falls, there is the very real possibility that they hit their head and sustain a traumatic brain injury.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: If a person falls on their butt, there is the very real possibility that they sustain major damage to their spine. These injuries may result in partial or even total paralysis.

It can be hard to know where to begin after being injured by a consumer product. Many consumers may blame themselves if they are injured. But the fact of the matter is that many injuries are caused by defective products that were poorly designed or negligently manufactured. Any person that is injured by a defective consumer product may be entitled to compensation through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
