CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes Recalled Due to Poisoning Hazard

Diamond Wipes International Issues Recall for CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes Over Risk of Child Poisoning and Violations of Mandatory Safety Standards

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (July 17, 2026) – A recall has been issued for the CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes because they can pose a major risk of child poisoning.

The recall was issued on July 2, 2026. An estimated 75,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the wipes were recalled for a number of safety issues that caused them to be dangerous. Among other things, the wipes contain lidocaine.

The Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires that any product that contains lidocaine must be in child-resistant packaging. Improperly packaged products create the real risk that a child could open the packaging and consume the contents.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes were manufactured inside the United States and sold at various CVS Pharmacy stores across the nation.

Liability for Dangerous Consumer Products

Diamond Wipes International and other companies that create consumer products could potentially be held liable if a child is poisoned by their product. Products that contain lidocaine are inherently dangerous. Ingesting lidocaine can lead to serious injury or death for young children. When a consumer product contains lidocaine, it must be placed in child-resistant packaging. This is required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. This act poses a number of obligations on manufacturers.

  • Child-Resistant Packaging:The package must be difficult for a child under five to open within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Testing Protocols: Companies must abide by standard testing protocols set forth in 16 C.F.R. § 1700.20.
  • Certify Compliance: Companies must indicate that their products comply with all applicable packaging requirements.

When a company creates a defective product that causes injury to a child, they could be held strictly liable for any resulting injuries through a product liability claim. Product liability claims based on negligence will typically assert that a product was defective in one of several different ways. For example, a product may have design defects if there was some issue with the packaging. A manufacturer could also be liable for injuries caused by a defective product if they failed to warn about the latent dangers associated with that product.

How An Attorney Can Help After A Child is Injured by Lidocaine

Children can be seriously injured or killed if they were to ingest lidocaine. The substance has been responsible for a number of deaths and hospitalizations over the years. According to the BMJ Group, “Poisonings and deaths linked to the use of the local anaesthetic lidocaine have nearly tripled in the US over the past decade, finds an analysis of National Poison Data System (NPDS) reports, published online in the journal Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine.” There are many ways that an attorney can help if a child is injured by lidocaine or some other substance.

  • Investigate: An attorney can investigate the unique facts of the incident and help make a determination on whether or not the manufacturer could be liable.
  • Legal Claim: An attorney can pursue a legal claim on behalf of injury victims. They can also handle all negotiations with insurance providers.
  • Contingency Fee: An attorney can work entirely on a contingency fee basis. This means that they only get paid by the opposing parties insurance provider if they were able to successfully resolve your claim.

Product liability claims can be extremely difficult to pursue. They typically require the extensive collection of evidence and testimony from expert witnesses. Product manufacturers typically will never accept responsibility if their product does injure someone. They are more likely to claim that the consumer was at fault. Having a skilled attorney can often be the difference between winning or losing these types of cases.

This is why we fight so hard to protect families after any accident. It is our belief that safety should always be the first priority of any company that sells products to the public.
