Liability For West Quincy Pedestrian Accidents

Parking lots can be particularly dangerous places for pedestrians. According to the National Safety Council, “Parking lots are riskier than you think. Tens of thousands of crashes occur in parking lots and garage structures annually, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries. They become even more dangerous around the holidays.”  There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting pedestrians in parking lots.

  • Drivers should slow down when they are inside of parking lots.
  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Drivers should refrain from distractions while in parking lots.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. Drivers should remain particularly vigilant inside of parking lots. These spaces tend to have much lower speed limits than roadways. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are preventable and involve some amount of negligence. Many drivers involved in these accidents are distracted or not fully paying attention to the road ahead of them. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have rights. Any person that is injured in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a bodily injury claim.
