Driver Injured In Glenview Train Accident on Depot Street

GLENVIEW, ILLINOIS (September 1, 2025) – A driver was hospitalized in a Glenview train accident along the 100 block of Depot Street.

County officials are saying that the accident took place around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday. A train was involved in a collision with the vehicle for undetermined reasons.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. They were transported to Lutheran General Hospital with injuries.

Very little information has been released about what may have led up to the crash. A full investigation into the train accident at the railroad crossings along Glenview Road remains ongoing.

Liability for Glenview Train Accidents

Most people simply assume that drivers will always be held at fault for any collision with trains. But this is simply not the case. Train operators have a legal obligation to continuously scan the tracks ahead of them and slow down to avoid collisions. If a train operator fails to take reasonable precautions to avoid colliding with a vehicle, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. Many different factors could contribute to a train accident.

  • Speeding: Trains have speed limits in much the same way that cars do. When train operators fail to observe these limits, they are more likely to be involved in crashes.
  • Blind Turns: Some railroad crossings have obstructed fields of view and make it difficult for both drivers and train operators to see what’s coming.
  • Damaged Crossings: It is also possible that some defect with train tracks could contribute to inflation. Many vehicles have become stuck on train tracks.

When a train operator causes an accident, their employer could also be held liable. Employers in Illinois can be held vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their employees–insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. Any person injured in a Glenview train accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.

Steps to Take After a Cook County Train Accident

Thousands of people are seriously injured in train accidents every year. According to the National Safety Council, “Railroad deaths totaled 954 in 2024, a 1% decrease from the 2023 revised total of 967. Nonfatal injuries totaled 6,542, a 3% decrease from the 2023 revised total of 6,768. From 2023 to 2024, fatalities at highway-rail crossings increased 7%, while fatalities involving other types of incidents decreased 4%.” Victims of train accidents should take a number of steps to preserve their legal rights.

  • Medical Evaluation: Any person injured in a train accident should undergo a medical evaluation, even if they feel as though they are alright. Many of the injuries associated with train accidents may not be immediately obvious.
  • Police Report: The accident should also be reported to the police as soon as possible. The police can conduct an investigation into what happened. But these investigations are far from exhaustive.
  • Legal Support: Finally, it is always a good idea to speak with an experienced attorney if you’ve been injured in a train accident. A train accident attorney can take steps to ensure that important pieces of evidence are preserved and that you are fairly compensated for any injuries.

Recovering from a train accident can be a highly stressful and difficult process. Victims may need to take long periods of time away from their job. They may also be burdened with high medical costs. This is where an attorney can help. An attorney can pursue damages against all negligent parties so that you are able to focus your energy on healing.
