DuraTrac Stainless Steel Gas Connectors Recalled Over Fire Hazard

DuraTrac Issues Recall for Stainless Steel Gas Connectors With Label Due to Gas Leak and Fire Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (April 8, 2026) – DuraTrac stainless steel gas connectors have been recalled because they pose a major risk of fire and injury to consumers.

The recall was issued on March 26, 2026. Roughly 196,800 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled DuraTrac gas connectors contain a manufacturing defect that could lead to a gas leak.

While gas leaks can be dangerous by themselves, this also creates a major fire hazard. The recalled products were initially manufactured in Thailand and sold at various hardware stores, including Ace Hardware.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Consumer Products

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must rigorously test all of their products and adhere to all relevant safety mandates. When a product contains some type of defect, this could create the basis of a product liability claim. Product liability claims can be based on many different types of defects.

  • Design: A product may have design defects that are inherent to the way that it is created.
  • Manufacturing: A product may have manufacturing defects that occurred during the actual creation of the product.
  • Marketing: A product may have marketing defects if it lacks clear instructions or fails to warn consumers about non-obvious hazards.

If a gas connector fails to properly seal in gas from one entry point to another, this can be incredibly dangerous. It could also form the basis of a product liability claim. Liability for a defective product could extend beyond the company that designed the product. In many cases, the manufacturing process is outsourced to third-party companies. Those companies could bear legal responsibility.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Consumer Products

Gas leaks remain a major cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. These incidents have increased in recent years. According to Science Direct, “From 2003 to 2018, a total of 2.4 million gas leak-coded incidents required fire department responses, accounting for ∼0.8% of all nationwide incidents. Reported gas leak incidents have steadily increased nationwide, nearly quadrupling from 2003 to 2018.” Several steps should be taken after any gas leak and subsequent fire.

  • The fire department should be called so that they can begin an investigation.
  • All medical records related to the incident should be collected and preserved.
  • It should be determined if the gas connectors involved were part of any recalls.
  • Victims should consider their legal options with an experienced product liability attorney.

It can be difficult to know what to do after being injured by any consumer product. This is particularly true if that product is a gas connector valve. Getting information is vital after any gas fire or explosion. The source of the leak or fire should be determined. Any person injured by a faulty gas connector may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim. A product liability attorney can examine the unique facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are.
