Over 2 Million Fisher-Price Snuga Swings Were Recalled Because They Can Accidentally Suffocate Infants
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (October 18, 2024) – Fisher-Price Snuga Swings have been recalled because they can pose a suffocation hazard to infants.
The recall was issued on October 10, 2024. Around 2.1 million swings were sold in the United States, including roughly 99,000 swings sold in Canada.
According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the swings can be a danger when infants fall asleep in them.
Bedding material should also not be added to the twins. In either situation, the headrest and body support on the seat pad can increase the risk of suffocation.
Between 2012 and 2022, there were 5 reported deaths of infants between the ages of 1 to 3 months. The recalled Fisher-Price Snuga Swings come in a variety of different SKUs.

Liability For Injuries Caused By Children’s Products
Injuries and deaths involving consumer products remain alarmingly common in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 12.7 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe.” Many of the people injured are among those who are most vulnerable, including older adults and small children. In particular, there are a number of safety regulations related to infant swings.
- Stability and Structure: Infant swings must be stable so that they don’t tip over, especially while they are in motion.
- Restraints: Swings must include a restraint system to prevent infants from sliding out.
- Reclining Angle: Swings should have adjustable seat angles and be designed to recline enough in order to prevent airway obstruction.
- Warning and Instructions: Swings must have visible warning labels with respect to weight and age limits. Manufactures must also include clear instructions for safe use and setup.
Companies that manufacture products for infants and children have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must follow all guidelines set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They must also take into consideration all of the ways that their products could likely be used and even misused. If a company fails to create a product that is reasonably safe, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. A product liability claim could also be possible when a product does not have clear warnings or instructions for use. It is important that certain steps are taken after any injury invoking a consumer product.
- Medical records related to any injuries should be preserved.
- It should be determined if the product involved was part of any recall.
- A police report of the incident may need to be created.
- An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.
Any injury or death involving children can be extremely hard for all involved. Parents will often blame themselves. But the fact of the matter is that many injuries and deaths involving consumer products are due to these products being poorly designed. Sadly, though, companies that make swings, beds, toys, and other products will often do everything in their power to deny liability for accidents. The family of any child that died due to a dangerous swing may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
