CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 11, 2026) – Giantex Lounge Chairs have been recalled because they compose a serious amputation risk to consumers.

The recall was issued on May 28, 2026. Roughly 1,155 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, consumers may place their fingers in a pinch point when they are adjusting the lounge chair.

This can create a serious amputation hazard. Giantex has received one report of a consumer’s finger being amputated as they were attempting to adjust their lounge chair.

The lounge chairs were sold at numerous retailers, including Amazon. The products were initially manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Consumer Products

Companies that manufacture lounge chairs and other consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. Among other things, consumers should not be injured by products when they’re being used as intended. Even if a product is not being used exactly as intended, it should not cause injuries in a way that would be unforeseeable. There are many actions that product manufacturers should take to prevent their products from becoming hazardous.

  • Testing: Companies should test their products in all of the ways that they would likely be used and even potentially misused.
  • Safety Regulations: Companies should ensure that they are strictly adhering to all safety regulations.
  • Engineering: Companies should use engineering safeguards to help prevent foreseeable accidents.

When a company creates a product that is defective, they could be held strictly liable through a liability claim. Manufacturers will typically be liable for defects with their product, even if they exercise a great deal of care to ensure those products are safe. There are many potential ways that a product could be defective. For example, a defect during the manufacturing process may cause unintended mishaps. A company could also be liable for their products if they failed to warn about dangers associated with their use.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Consumer Products

Many people are seriously injured every year in accidents involving consumer products. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 15.1 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe. Many of these injuries occur to our most vulnerable populations, older adults and young children.” Several steps should be taken after any accident involving consumer products.

  • All of the medical records related to the injury should be preserved.
  • The product involved in the injury should be stored in a secure location.
  • It should be determined if the product involved was on any recall lists.
  • Victims should carefully consider their legal options with a team experienced in civil rights claims.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after being injured by any consumer product. Victims are often left with large medical bills. They may also need to take extensive periods of time away from work. Sadly, manufacturers will almost never accept responsibility when one of their products injures a consumer. This is why it is so important for accident victims to consider their legal options with an experienced attorney.

Getting Legal Help After Being Injured By a Consumer Product

Horwitz Horwitz & Associates was concerned to hear about the safety issues with the Giantex Lounge Chairs. It is deeply unfortunate that someone lost a finger while using these chairs. This is not the first time that a consumer product has caused finger amputations. Companies owe a duty to study all of the foreseeable ways that their product could be used. But far too many companies are more concerned with making as much money as possible so that safety becomes an afterthought.
