CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 24, 2026) – A recall has been issued for the GOPO TOYS Pull String Teething Toys because they can pose a major risk of injury or death from choking.

Recall issued on June 18, 2026. Roughly 70,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the CSPC recall safety notice, the GOPO TOYS Pull String Teething Toys violate mandatory standards set for children’s toys. In particular, the silicone strings are smaller and longer than what is permitted.

Among other things, it is possible that the strings become lodged in a child’s throat. This creates a serious choking hazard.

The firm has become aware of three reports of children choking on the toy. They were distributed through Amazon between August 2023 and March 2026.

Liability for Injuries Involving Children’s Toys

Children continue to be overly represented in terms of injuries involving consumer products. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 15.1 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe. Many of these injuries occur to our most vulnerable populations, older adults and young children.” Manufacturers should take several actions to prevent accidents involving their products.

  • Manufacturers must take into consideration all of the ways that children could use and misuse their product.

  • Manufacturers should abide by all federal safety standards.

  • Manufacturers should avoid creating children’s products that have small components. Small magnets can be particularly dangerous.

  • Manufacturers should provide warnings on their products so the parents are made aware of foreseeable risks.

When a consumer product is defective and injures a child, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Product liability claims are typically pursued under strict liability. With a strict liability claim, defendants will typically be liable for injuries involving their products if it is demonstrated that the product was defective. This is true even if the defendant used a great deal of care to avoid harm. With respect to children’s toys. Claims asserting negligence will often focus on failure to warn claims. Under a failure-to-warn claim, a manufacturer could be liable when they fail to alert consumers of latent dangers.

How an Attorney Can Help After Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Any type of accident that causes oxygen deprivation can result in a child’s traumatic brain injury. According to Children’s Health, “Anoxic brain injury is defined by a one-time event that causes harm to the brain. This harm can cause oxygen deprivation to the brain, which leads to brain cell death within minutes. This can lead to complications with a variety of brain functions, including cognitive (mental), physiological (physical) and emotional.” There are a number of ways that a personal injury attorney can help if your child has been injured by a consumer product.

  • An attorney can thoroughly investigate whether or not the product involved was defective in some way. Demonstrating that any product is defective will often require extensive research, and the testimony of expert witnesses.

  • An attorney can ensure that your child is getting all of the medical treatment that they need to recover from their injury.

  • An attorney can subpoena all records and evidence that they may need to make your case as strong as possible.

  • An attorney will work entirely on a contingency fee basis. This means that you owe them nothing unless they’re able to successfully resolve your legal claim.

Caring for an injured child can be overwhelming. This is particularly true when a child sustained any type of traumatic brain injury as a result of oxygen deprivation. To make matters worse, manufacturers will almost never accept responsibility when one of their products causes a child to be seriously injured. This is why it is so important that parents carefully consider their legal options after any incident involving a defective product.
