AMTRADING Issues Recall for Hoovy Cooling Gel Insert Pads for Car Seats and Strollers Because They Can Burn Young Children

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (October 10, 2024) – Hoovy Cooling Gel Insert Pads for cars and strollers have been recalled because they can pose a serious burn risk for young children.
The recall was on September 25, 2025. Roughly 20,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the gel pads can become extremely hot if they are left in the sun or a hot vehicle. This can cause small children to become seriously burned if they contact the pads.
AMTRADING has received one report of a child sustaining second-degree burns after coming into contact with the pads.
Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products
Companies that create children’s products have a legal obligation to ensure their products are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the ways that their product can be used. When a product has design defects likely to cause injuries, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Several elements must be demonstrated in any prima facie case of design defect.
- The defendant sold the product the plaintiff used.
- The defendant was the commercial seller of the product.
- The plaintiff sold an injury through their use of the product.
- The product was defective at the time it was sold to the defendant.
- The defect was the actual and proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.
What matters in product liability claims based on negligence is foreseeability. It matters whether or not the type of accident that occurred was reasonably foreseeable. It is certainly arguable that car seat manufacturers should keep in mind that many, many people live in states where it gets hot outside. Children will be placed in car seats that have been sitting in the sun.
Taking Action After Injuries Involving Consumer Products
Many children are injured every year in accidents involving consumer products. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 15.1 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe. Many of these injuries occur to our most vulnerable populations, older adults and young children.” The parents of children injured by consumer products should take certain actions.
- Medical Attention: Parents should seek immediate medical attention for their child if they are injured. It is relatively common for the injuries associated with any accident with a consumer product to not be obvious.
- Evidence Preservation: The product that caused the injury should be stored in a safe place where it will not cause official harm. It should also be understood if the product was on any recall list.
- Legal Support: The parents of an injured child should explore all of their legal options with an experienced attorney. An attorney can review the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
It can be hard to know what to do if your child has been injured in an accident involving a children’s seat. Many parents will blame themselves for these accidents. But the fact of the matter is that companies can be held accountable if their product was defective. The parents of any child injured by a defective product may be able to pursue damages through a civil claim.
