14-ounce Children’s Sport Tumbler Recalled Over Serious Injury Risk From Choking Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 19, 2025) – HydroJug issued a recall for their 14-ounce Children’s Sport Tumblers because they can pose a risk of serious injury or death.
The recall was issued on December 4, 2025. Roughly 17,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the rivets on the handle can come loose. This creates a choking hazard for children.
HydroJug has received a total of 656 reports of the rivets on the handle coming loose. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The products were sold at various stores, including Ace, Kent, Grocery, and Academy Sports.
The 14-ounce Children’s Sport Tumblers come in a variety of colors and decorations. Some have dinosaurs, and others have a lot of sports equipment.
Liability for Accidents Caused by Children’s Products
Companies that make children’s products have a legal obligation to do everything in their power to protect consumers from foreseeable sources of harm. This is particularly important for any product intended to be used primarily for children. These products should not have small parts that could create a choking hazard. Manufacturers should take several steps to prevent their products from posing a choking hazard.
- Companies should eliminate as many small detachable parts as possible.
- Companies should use secure fasteners to make sure their product stays together.
- Companies should ensure their product does not break apart when placed under tension or torque.
- Companies should use accurate labeling at all times to let consumers know about any small parts hazards.
When a company fails to create a product that is reasonably safe, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are many different ways that a consumer product could be considered defective. A consumer product may break apart during normal use. A corporation may also fail to warn consumers that their product has tiny parts that could be ingested by children.
Steps to Take After Children Are Injured by Consumer Products
Many children are injured every year in accidents involving consumer products. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 15.1 million people were treated in emergency departments for injuries resulting from consumer products. Most of the injuries involve everyday products often assumed to be safe.” The parents of any children injured by a consumer product should take several measures to protect their rights.
- Injured children should receive medical attention as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with consumer products will not be immediately obvious.
- All of the medical records related to those injuries should be collected and reviewed.
- The evidence associated with the defective product should be gathered. It’s important that the product is not thrown away. Rather, it should be stored in the secure location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
Accidents involving products for children are often highly preventable. They tend to happen when companies choose to prioritize cost. Cutting measures over safety. In particular, corporations may choose to use cheap materials that can easily break apart. The parents of any child injured by a consumer product may be able to seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim. Damages can help cover the medical bills and related expenses for their child’s injury.
