Jawaan Chick, 33, Died in Far South Side, Chicago Semi-Truck Accident on East 130th Street
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (July 12, 2026) – A 33-year-old man identified as Jawaan Chick was one of two people killed in a Far South Side, Chicago truck accident on East 130th Street.
County officials are saying that the incident occurred around 9:15 AM on Friday in the Hegewisch neighborhood. Jawaan Chick was one of two people inside of a Dodge Grand Caravan that was traveling eastbound.
A semi-truck was attempting to make a left turn onto 130th Street when it was involved in a collision with the Dodge. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the injured victims.
Both Jawaan Chick and another male passenger were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. Sadly, both were pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The CPD Major Accident Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation.

Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers that truck drivers can make. The NHTSA has estimated that people are nearly 10 times more likely to get involved in a collision for making a left turn as opposed to a right turn. If a truck driver makes an unsafe left turn into the path of another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Negligence is the failure to operate with the reasonable care necessary to avoid a collision. Negligent parties could be held liable for an accident that they caused through a civil claim.

- Safety Record: Another important piece of evidence to consider is the safety record of the trucking company involved in the crash. Many truck companies have incredibly poor safety records and still continue to operate.
