Recall Issued for JOKOSIS Bed Rails Because They Can Entrap and Seriously Injure or Kill Users

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 26, 2025) – JOKOSIS Portable Bed Rails have been recalled because they pose a serious risk of entrapment and asphyxiation.
The recall was issued on December 18, 2025. Roughly 12,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled JOKOSIS Portable Bed Rails violate mandatory standards set for adult portable bed rails.
In particular, when the bed rails are attached to a bed, users can become entrapped between the bed rail and the side of the mattress. This creates a serious risk of asphyxiation.
Moreover, the bed rails do not have the required warning labels. They were originally manufactured in China and could be purchased from Amazon.
No injuries have been reported thus far.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Adult Portable Bed Rails
Companies that make bed rails have a legal obligation to ensure that these devices are reasonably safe. They must strictly adhere to all federal regulations for adult portable bed rails. Adequate warning labels must be placed on these devices as well. When a company violates federal safety standards or fails to warn about the risks associated with their product, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are several ways that a consumer could be injured by adult portable bed rails.
- Entrapment: Consumers could become trapped between the rail and the mattress. This could lead to restricted breathing and compression on the user’s chest.
- Falling: Consumers may fall when climbing over the rail. This could lead to hip fractures, head trauma, and other serious injuries.
- Rail Collapse: consumers may be injured if the bed rail collapses under body weight. This is particularly common if the welds on the device are improperly performed.
- Mattress Compatibility: Consumers can be seriously injured by adult portable bed rails if the mattress they are attached to is an improper fit or was not designed to be used with a bed rail.
When a company has actual or constructive notice that their devices pose a risk to consumers, they must take action. If a consumer is injured by a defective product, the company that created it could be held at fault through a product liability claim. Unfortunately, companies will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if a consumer is injured by their product. This is why it is so important to seek legal guidance after being injured by any consumer product.
Steps to Take After Being Injured by Adult Portable Bed Rails
Many people are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents involving adult portable bed rails. According to the National Council on Aging, “While designed to help prevent someone from falling out of bed and provide extra support, adult portable bed rails caused at least 284 entrapment deaths between January 2003 and December 2021. And a voluntary safety standard has proven to lack widespread industry compliance.” Any person injured by adult portable bed rails should take certain steps to protect their rights.
- All of the medical records related to the incident should be gathered.
- The device that caused the injury should be stored in a secure location when it’s not likely to cause additional harm.
- It should be determined if the effective device was on any recall list.
- Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.
It could be hard to know where to begin after being injured by any consumer product. But it is important for victims to understand that they do have legal recourse. A product liability attorney may be able to pursue damages on their behalf. These damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. There are no upfront costs to hire a product liability attorney. They get paid entirely on a contingency fee basis and are only compensated by the opposing party if they are able to successfully resolve your case.
