Liability In Sterling Car Accidents

Thousands of motorcyclists are killed or seriously injured every year in car accidents. The vast majority of these collisions are totally preventable. In fact, the NHTSA estimates that nearly 93% of all car accidents are due to human error. Motorcyclists have such a small profile that they are often overlooked. There are a number of factors that could contribute to a motorcycle accident.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Prescription drug use

All drivers must exercise due care and take steps to avoid collisions. Many car accidents are due to drivers that make dangerous left turns without checking their blind spots. Pursuant to Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/11-707), no person shall make a left turn or U-turn upon a roadway unless such a movement can be made with reasonable safety. If a driver makes a left turn in front of a vehicle, they will typically be held at fault in the event of an accident. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any motorcycle collision.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Both vehicles involved in the collision should be examined.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.

Even in the absence of video footage or eyewitnesses, the aftermath of a collision can paint a picture of what took place. The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover many of the expenses that can come with the sudden loss of a loved one. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
