Attorney for Nursing Home Abuse in Chicago

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 14, 2025) – KingPavonini Adult Portable Bed Rails have been recalled because they pose a risk of serious injury and death due to entrapment.

The recall was issued on November 22, 2025. Roughly 81,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the KingPavonini Adult Portable Bed Rails can cause users to become entrapped between the bed rail and the side of the mattress.

This creates a major risk of death by asphyxiation. Moreover, the bed rails do not have appropriate warning labels.

The product could be purchased on Amazon and was originally manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Consumer Products

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must test their product in all of the real-world scenarios that they are likely to be used in. They must also abide by all federal safety guidelines. There are several ways that a product may be defective.

  • Design Defects: A product may contain designed defects. These are inherent to the way it is created and present before it is manufactured.
  • Manufacturing Defects: A product may contain manufacturing defects. These could arise due to some issue during the manufacturing process.
  • Marketing Defects: A product may have marketing defects if it lacks clear instructions or warning labels about non-obvious hazards.

It is vital that companies put proper warning labels on all of their products. This allows the consumer to make informed decisions. When a product lacks adequate warning labels, this could form the basis of a failure to warn claim. Warning labels are particularly important for bed rails because they’ve caused so many deaths.

Steps to Take After Injuries Involving Bed Rails

Accidents involving bed rails are much more common than many people realize. According to the National Council on Aging, “While designed to help prevent someone from falling out of bed and provide extra support, adult portable bed rails caused at least 284 entrapment deaths between January 2003 and December 2021.” It is important that certain actions are taken after any injury involving bed rails.

  • Medical Attention: Victims should seek medical attention as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with entrapment may not be immediately obvious.
  • Evidence Preservation: The device involved in the incident should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause further harm.
  • Legal Support: Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.

The vast majority of incidents involving portable bed rails are preventable. In many situations, they involve instances where the bed rails are not properly positioned. Liability for accidents involving these devices could extend to long-term care facilities and other medical institutions that use them. Any person injured by adult bed rails may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
