LFTE USA Issues Recall for Popular Playground Swing Set Seats Because They Pose a Fall Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (March 24, 2026) – A recall has been issued for the LFTE USA playground swing set seats because they can pose a major fall hazard to children.
The recall was issued on March 12, 2026. Roughly 7,200 seats were sold prior to the recall.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the rivets used to support the swingset can potentially fail. This can send children through the seat and onto the ground below.
LETE USA has received one incident report where a child fell and was injured. The seats were originally manufactured in China.
Liability for Injuries Caused by Defective Playground Equipment
Companies that manufacture playground equipment have a legal obligation to make sure that it is reasonably safe. These companies must take into consideration all of the ways that children could potentially use and even misuse their products. It is well understood that children can play rough with all playground equipment. Accordingly, it is imperative that this equipment be sturdy and well constructed. There are several elements that must be demonstrated in any prima facie case of product liability.
- The defendant sold the product the plaintiff used.
- The defendant was the commercial seller of the product.
- The plaintiff was injured through their use of the product.
- The product was defective at the time it was sold to the defendant.
- The defect with the product was the actual and proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.
There are many different ways that a product could be defective. A product may have designed defects that are inherent to the way that it is created. It is also possible that defects during the manufacturing process could create the basis of a product liability claim. If the rivets in seats or other products are not properly secured, they could easily come loose over time. When a product lacks adequate warnings, this can also be considered negligence.
Steps to Take After Being Injured on a School Playground
Many children are injured in accidents on school playgrounds every year. According to the Children’s Safety Network, “218,851 playground-related injuries are treated in an emergency department each year. This infographic breaks down playground-related injuries by hazard, diagnosis, equipment, and age and sex.” Many different steps should be taken after any child is injured on a school playground.
- The equipment involved in the injury should be preserved as evidence.
- The injured child should be taken to the hospital to receive a through medical evaluation.
- It should be determined if the equipment is involved in any recall list.
- The parents of the injured child should consult with an experienced product liability attorney.
It can be difficult to know that your child has been injured in an accident. An injury can seriously impact a child’s quality of life. This is particularly true if they sustain damage to their spinal cord. The parents of any child injured by defective playground equipment may be able to pursue damages through a civil claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
