CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (October 6, 2024) – LUCID Platform Beds with Upholstered Square Tufted Headboards by CBV were recalled because they may injure users.

The recall was issued on September 19, 2024. Around 137,000 units were sold, including 890 sold in Canada.

Affected units come in a variety of sizes, including Twin, Full, Queen, King, and Cal-King. The beds may sag and break during use.

This may cause the person on the bed to fall and hit the floor. VB has received 245 reports of the beds breaking, sagging, or collapsing during use.

This has led to 18 injuries, including contusions and bruises.

Liability For Accidents Involving Consumer Goods

Injury involving falls from beds is actually remarkably common. Young children and the elderly tend to be at the greatest risk of serious injury. According to The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, “An estimated 3,414,007 children aged <5 years were treated for bed and sofa-related injuries in emergency departments (EDs) in the United States from 2007 through 2021, averaging 115.2 injuries per 10,000 persons annually.” There are a number of reasons that a bed could collapse mid-use.

  • The bed may have a weak or damaged frame.
  • The bed may have loose or missing hardware.
  • The bed may have broken or worn slots.
  • The bed may be made from faulty or poor-quality materials.

Bed manufacturers have a legal obligation to ensure that their beds are reasonably safe. This includes taking steps to ensure that they do not collapse mid-use. If a bed has design defects that make it prone to collapse, this could form the basis of a strict liability claim. Victims of bed falls tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Head injuries
  • Organ damage

It can be hard to know where to begin after being injured by a consumer product. Many victims are left with serious injuries that impair their ability to work or go to school. To make matters worse, companies will often do everything in their power to deny liability if their product injures anyone. It is important that victims understand that they do have rights. They may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
