Johnson Health Tech Issues Recall for Matrix Retail and Vision Treadmills Over Fire Risk

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (February 12, 2026) – Johnson Health Tech has expanded its recall to include Matrix Retail T30 (TM729) Treadmills because the devices can pose a fire hazard.
The recall was issued on January 22, 2026. Roughly 47,000 units were sold prior to the recall.
The power cord for the treadmill can become loose, which creates a fire hazard. A number of different models were included in the recall.
This includes Matrix Retail T30, TF30, T50, TF50, and T75 treadmills. It also includes Vision T9800, TF20, T40, and T80 treadmills.
Johnson Health Tech has received 27 reports of overheating at the power cord-socket connection.
Liability for Fires Caused by Consumer Products
Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. This is particularly important for any device that has the potential to become a fire hazard. Any product that uses a power cord should be well insulated around the cord. If any product has a propensity to overheat or catch fire during normal use, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are several elements that will need to be demonstrated in any prima facie case of product liability.
- The defendant sold the product that the plaintiff used.
- The defendant was the commercial seller of the product.
- The plaintiff suffered an injury through their use of the product.
- The product was defective at the time it was sold.
- The defect with the product was the actual and proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.
There are many different ways that a product could potentially be defective. A product may have designed defects inherent to the way that it is created. It is also possible that a product is defective because of some flaw during the manufacturing process. Companies could also be liable if they failed to warn consumers about the latent dangers associated with their use of their product.
Steps to Take After Being Injured by a Consumer Product
Many people are injured every year in fires caused by consumer products. According to the National Fire Protection Association, “Most home fires and fire casualties resulted from one of five causes: cooking, heating equipment, electrical distribution and lighting equipment, intentional fire setting, and smoking materials. Over the five-year period of 2019–2023, cooking was the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Smoking materials caused the largest share of home fire deaths.” Certain actions should be taken after any fire.
- Victims should seek medical treatment as early as possible.
- Victims should preserve all evidence related to the fire.
- Victims should collect the police report created after the incident.
- Victims should contact an experienced product liability attorney.
Being injured in a residential fire can be one of the most traumatic and painful experiences that most people will ever go through. Victims are often left with life-altering injuries and high medical bills. Any person injured due to a defective treadmill or other consumer product should seek legal counsel. They are able to pursue some measure of justice and accountability through a personal injury claim.
