MJKSARE High Chairs Recalled Over Entrapment Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (September 18, 2024) – MJKSARE High Chairs were recalled over concerns that they may pose an entrapment and fall hazard for infants.

The recall date was listed as September 12, and around 4,760 units were sold. Amazon exclusively sold the high chairs.

No injuries have been reported thus far. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the product violates federal regulations for high chairs.

The main problem with the MJKSARE High Chairs is that the leg openings are too wide, thereby creating an entrapment hazard. Moreover, the trays on the chairs may become disengaged and allow infants to fall through.

Liability For Injuries Cause By High Chairs

Accidents involving baby high chairs may seem like freak occurrences, but they are unfortunately very common. According to one study in Ambulatory Pediatrics, “There were an estimated 40 650 high chair-related injuries (95% confidence interval [CI], 32 657-48 643) to children 3 years old and younger treated in hospital emergency departments in the US during the 5-year study period.” There are a number of design defects with high chairs that may contribute to accidents.

  • Faulty harnesses or restraint systems can lead to children falling out.
  • An unstable base with a high chair can lead to it tipping over.
  • Accidents are more likely when high chairs are made from weak or flimsy materials.

All companies that make products for children and babies have a legal obligation to ensure that they are compliant with federal regulations. Among other things, high chairs must have restraint systems and tip-over stability. When a company fails to follow safety guidelines, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. Faulty high chairs can cause a wide variety of different injuries.

  • Head injuries
  • Fractures and broken bones
  • Dental injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Asphyxia

The vast majority of accidents involving high chairs are preventable. These incidents tend to involve companies that prioritize their own profits over making safe products. Most of the problematic chairs are manufactured in countries that may not have stringent safety standards. The family of any child injured by a high chair may be able to seek some level of justice through a civil claim. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
