NordicTrack Rowing Machines Recalled Over Fire Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (October 26, 2025) – NordicTrack Rowing Machines by iFIT have been recalled because they can pose a serious risk of injury or death from the devices catching fire.

The recall was issued on October 16, 2025. Roughly 44,800 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the screen console can overheat and potentially ignite. This creates a serious fire risk.

The manufacturer has received several reports of incidents. This includes two instances where a fire started. There were another six instances of devices smoking or melting.

Liability for Accidents Involving Home Gym Equipment

Companies that create gym equipment have a legal obligation to ensure that it is reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the people that may use the device, including children. They must also carefully consider all of the ways that their product could be used and potentially even misused. If a piece of home gym equipment is defective, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Product liability claims based on negligence will typically fall into one of three categories.

  • A product may have designed defects if it is inherently unsafe. Design defects are present before a product is manufactured.
  • A product may have manufacturing defects if only certain units are likely to malfunction.
  • A product may have marketing defects if it lacks clear instructions or if it fails to warn consumers about latent dangers.

Accidents involving home gym equipment are often highly preventable. They tend to be the results of companies choosing to prioritize profits over safety. For example, companies may use subpar internal components that are more likely to fail. This is particularly dangerous for devices that use lithium-ion batteries and other electronic components that could potentially overheat.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Gym Equipment

Accidents involving gym equipment are actually quite common. According to one report by the Daily Mail, “Roughly 445,642 people visited the hospital in 2022 because of gym equipment, while another 719,335 required treatment for injuries related to basketball and cycling, combined.” Victims should take several actions to protect their legal rights.

  • Medical Attention: It is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Failing to seek medical attention can jeopardize your ability to pursue an injury claim down the road.
  • Evidence Preservation: The gym equipment involved in the accident should be stored in a secure location where it is not likely to cause additional harm.
  • Legal Support: Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney. An attorney can help you pursue damages for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Companies that create gym equipment will often fight vigorously to deny liability for accidents involving their products. In many cases, they will blame the victims or other third parties. This is why it is so important to speak with an attorney about the unique facts of your case. There are no up-front costs associated with hiring an attorney. They work entirely on a contingency fee basis and only get paid by the opposing party if they are able to resolve your case.
