Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves Sold at Walmart Recalled Over Fire Hazard and Burn Risk

What does “failure to warn” mean in product liability

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (December 14, 2025) – Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves have been recalled because they pose a serious risk of fire and burn injury.

The recall was issued on November 26, 2025. Roughly 201,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves may inadvertently explode or catch fire.

The manufacturer has received 26 reports of the camping stoves exploding. This has led to 16 injury cases, including instances where people suffered second-degree burns.

The stoves were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and manufactured in China.

Liability for Stovetop Cooking Accidents

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure they reasonably safe. This is particularly important if these devices contain flammable materials. To ensure safety, companies must routinely test their products and all of the real-world scenarios they would likely be used in. When a consumer product has defects, this could form the basis of a product liability claim.

  • Misaligned Components: A gas stove may have misaligned components that allow gas to leak prior to ignition.
  • Faulty Control Valve: A gas stove may have a faulty control valve that failed to properly control the flow of gas.
  • Misaligned Parts: A gas stove may have inadequate weldings or misaligned parts.

When a product has design defects, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Product liability claims are typically considered a strict liability offense. A defendant can be liable for a plaintiff’s injuries if the product is defective, regardless of the defendant’s intent. It does not matter if the manufacturer exercised a great deal of care to avoid causing harm.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by a Consumer Product

Many people are injured by consumer products every year. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “In 2020, an estimated 28,535,000 people sought medical attention for an injury related to, but not necessarily caused by, a consumer product. This is a decrease of more than 7.7 million (21 percent) from the 2019 estimate.” Victims should take several measures to protect their legal rights.

  • Medical Care: Victims should seek medical care as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with an accident will not be immediately obvious.
  • Evidence Preservation: All of the evidence associated with the accident should be collected and preserved. It can help reveal what went wrong.
  • Legal Guidance: Any person injured by a consumer product should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney.

It is often difficult to know where to begin after being injured by a consumer product. Many people are left with high medical bills and lasting trauma. Victims may blame themselves for what happened. But the fact of the matter is that many of these incidents involve dangerous products. Any person injured by a defective consumer product may be able to pursue some measure of justice through a product liability claim.
