Triangle Tube Issues Recall for Prestige Excellence and Prestige Solo Trimax Boiler Due to Risk of Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (March 4, 2025) – Prestige Excellence and Prestige Solo Trimax Boilers have been recalled because they can lead to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning accidents.
The recall was issued on February 27, 2025. Roughly 60,000 affected units were sold, including 7,500 sold in Canada.
According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the boilers can inadvertently release carbon monoxide due to delayed ignition or component damage.
This creates a serious risk of bodily injury or death. Two deaths have been reported thus far. A 47-year-old woman died from CO poisoning related to a Prestige Solo 175 boiler.
An 85-year-old man also died from CO poisoning related to a Prestige SOLO TriMax 175 boiler. Triangle Tube has also received 25 reports of CO leaks related to the recalled boilers.
The Prestige and Aerco Esteem Gas Boilers could be purchased at numerous wholesale distributors and independent contractors across the country. They were originally manufactured in Belgium.
Liability for Carbon Monoxide Accidents
Prolonged exposure to carbon monoxide can result in catastrophic injury or death. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when carbon monoxide builds up in the blood. When too much carbon monoxide is in the air, the body replaces the oxygen in the red blood cells with carbon monoxide. This can lead to serious tissue damage, or even death.” There are a number of different sources of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Gas appliances, including ovens, water heaters, and furnaces
- Fireplaces and wood stoves
- Generators and portable heaters
- Cars running inside of garages
Companies that make gas boilers and other products that have a potential to release carbon monoxide have a legal obligation to ensure that their products are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the ways that their products could potentially be used and even misused over time. If a gas boiler had a design defect that contributed to the release of carbon monoxide gas, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim.
Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a faulty gas boiler could extend beyond the company that manufactured the device. A landlord or building owner could also be held at fault. Property owners have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. If a property owner has actual or constructive notice about a dangerous gas boiler and fails to take action, they could be held liable for any resulting injuries or deaths. There are many symptoms associated with carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Shortness of breath
- Drowsiness
Carbon monoxide poisoning accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to involve situations where companies take shortcuts while creating their products. This could be done to save money, time, or for any number of different reasons. It is crucial that accident victims understand that they do have legal options. Any person injured in a carbon monoxide poisoning accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
