RELIEVE Numbing Cream Recalled Over Poisoning Risk

The recall is issued on September 25, 2025. Roughly 20,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the “RELIEVE” Numbing Cream contains lidocaine. Any product with lidocaine must be in child-resistant packaging, which is required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

The item packaging is not child-resistant. Ingesting the lidocaine can pose a serious risk of poisoning, particularly for young children.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The Mad Rabbit RELIEVE” Lidocaine Numbing Cream was sold at trade shows, tattoo shops, and retailers nationwide.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Consumer Products

Companies that make consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure they are safe. They must adhere to all safety regulations. Creating safe products also involves testing those products in all of the ways they are likely to be used and misused. It is well known that children may try to open bottles and ingest their contents. This is why it is so important for companies to follow the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

  • Child-Resistant Packaging: Products that contain hazardous ingredients must have child-resistant packaging.
  • Labeling Requirements: Containers must have clear instructions and warnings for consumers.
  • Enforcement: Manufacturers, distributors, and importers who fail to follow safety guidelines can face numerous fines and other penalties.

If a company fails to follow the Poison Prevention Packaging Act and this leads to a child being injured, they could be held at fault through a product liability claim. There are actually several ways that a company could be legally responsible for a defective product. When a company fails to warn about the dangers associated with their product, this could also form the basis of a product liability claim.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by Consumer Products

Many children are injured in accidental poisonings every year. According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, “Each year, poison control centers get more than 1 million calls about accidental poisonings of children ages 5 and younger. More than 9 in 10 poisonings in children occur in their homes. Makeup and personal care products are the most common causes of poisonings in children ages 5 and younger.” It is important that certain actions are taken after injuries involving consumer products.

  • Medical Attention: It is vital that parents seek immediate medical care if their child has been accidentally poisoned.
  • Evidence Preservation: The product involved in the poisoning should be stored in a safe location where it is not likely to cause further harm.
  • Product Review: It should be determined if the product that caused the poisoning was on any recall list.
  • Legal Support: Parents should seek the guidance of an experienced product liability attorney. An attorney can investigate your case and let you know if you have a claim that can be pursued.

Poisonings can have lasting physical and neurological impacts on a child, especially if they are young. It is relatively common for parents to blame themselves for these events. But the fact of the matter is that many poisonings can be prevented when products are placed in child-resistant packaging. The parent of any child injured by a consumer product may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
