Liability For Aurora Bus Accidents
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in bus accidents. According to the Journalist’s Resource, “on average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to any bus accident.
- Distracted driving
- Inclement weather
- Poor road conditions
- Vehicle system failures
Buses are considered “common carriers” and are held to strict safety standards set forth in the Common Carrier Liability Act (740 ILCS 25/). To that end, bus drivers must constantly scan the road ahead of them and slow down in order to avoid hitting any pedestrian or bicyclist. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting someone, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.
Depending on the facts of any case, the company that manufactured an electric scooter could be liable for an accident. Companies must create products that are reasonably safe. They must also properly warn customers about the non-obvious dangers associated with the use of their products. There are a number of defects with scooters that could contribute to a crash.
- The accelerator on a scooter could become stuck.
- The brakes on a scooter could give out.
- The stem of a scooter could collapse.
It can be hard to know where to begin after any bus accident. It is common for victims to suffer very serious injuries. They may need to take time off of work for extended periods. Any person that is injured in a scooter accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
