Shenzhen Shijingjie Network Technology Extension Cord Recalled Over Injury Risk

Shenzhen Shijingjie Network Technology Issues Recall for Male-to-Male Extension Cords Over Electrocution Hazard and Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Risk

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (April 19, 2026) – Shenzhen Shijingjie Network Technology has issued a recall for its male-to-male extension cords because they can pose a major risk of electrocution and CO poisoning.

The recall was issued on April 9, 2026. Roughly 200 units were sold prior to the recall. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled extension cords can become energized if one is plugged into a generator or other power source.

This pose is a real risk users could become electrocuted while handling it. Moreover, the short length of the cord encourages people to use generators inside of their homes or other enclosed spaces.

This could easily lead to someone becoming poisoned by carbon monoxide.

Liability for Faulty Consumer Products

Companies that make extension cords and other consumer products must ensure those products are reasonably safe. They must take into consideration all of the ways that they will likely be used. If a consumer product is defective in some way that is likely to cause serious injury or death, this could create the basis of a product liability claim. There are several elements that must be demonstrated in any prima facie case of product liability.

  • The defendant sold the product that was used by the plaintiff.
  • The defendant was the commercial seller of the product.
  • The plaintiff suffered an injury through their use of the product.
  • The product was defective at the time it was sold to the plaintiff.
  • The defect with the product was the actual and proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.

There are several ways that a consumer product could potentially be defective. Product liability claims asserting negligence will typically argue that a consumer product had some type of design defect. Design defects are inherent to the way that a product is made and exist before it is manufactured. If people are substantially likely to become electrocuted by simply handling an extension cord the way it was intended to be used, this could serve as strong evidence that that product was faulty in a major way.

Steps to Take After Being Injured by a Consumer Product

Electrocution is a major cause of preventable injury and death for consumers across the United States. According to one study by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “There was an estimated average of 100 electrocution fatalities associated with consumer products per year over the 3-year period from 2018 through 2020, with an estimated 110 consumer product-related electrocutions in 2018, 100 in 2019, and 90 in 2020.” Certain actions should be taken after any electrocution accident involving a consumer product.

  • Victims should seek medical treatment as early as possible.
  • All of the medical records related to that treatment should be collected.
  • It should be determined if the affected product was on any recall lists.
  • Any person injured by a consumer product should seek an independent review by a team experienced in product liability claims.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after any accident involving a consumer product. Victims often blame themselves if they’re injured by a consumer product. But the fact of the matter is that many of these incidents are preventable and the results of clear safety lapses. In particular, companies may choose to forgo safety measures that would’ve likely prevented injury. The victims of faulty consumer products are able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil action.
