Tala Muse Portable Lamp Recalled Due To Fire Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 25, 2024) – Tala North America has issued a recall for its Tala Muse Portable Lamps after it was discovered that they can pose a fire hazard.

The recall was issued on November 07, 2024. Around 5,300 units were sold prior to the recall.

The issue with the Tala Muse Portable Lamps is that an electronic can malfunction and cause the lightbulb to fail. This can lead to the lithium-ion battery overheating, which can pose a fire hazard.

Tala North America has received one report of a battery overheating and causing a fire.

Liability for Fires Caused by Lithium-Ion Batteries

A large portion of fires are caused by lithium-ion batteries. According to CBS News, “Lithium-ion battery fires caused at least 20 deaths and more than 300 injuries in New York City and San Francisco since 2019. […] Experts say much of the problem stems from unregulated aftermarket chargers that are not required to be certified.  In some cases, products left plugged in have overcharged causing batteries to malfunction, overheat and combust.” There are many other reasons that lithium-ion batteries may overheat.

  • Internal or external short circuits can result in high current flow.
  • Physical damage to a battery can cause batteries to suffer catastrophic failures.
  • Manufacturing defects with the battery can cause instability or overheating.

Companies that make products that use batteries have a legal obligation to make sure that those products are reasonably safe. They must abide by all safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Among other things, companies must rigorously test all of the ways that their products are likely to be used and misused. If a design defect contributed to lithium-ion batteries overheating, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of residential fires tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Smoke inhalation
  • Burn injuries
  • Organ damage
  • Death

It can be hard to know where to begin after a residential fire. These incidents can be extremely disruptive for all involved. Victims often contend with the total loss of their earthly possessions and life-altering injuries. This is why it is so important for accident victims to seek legal support as early as possible. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
