CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (July 31, 2024) – Textron Specialized Vehicles has issued a recall for its 2024 Arctic Cat Mountain 600 Snowmobiles because they pose a crash risk.
The recall was issued around July 25, 2024. Around 600 units were sold.
At issue, the pin on the u-joint of the steering knuckle can come loose and cause the rider to lose steering control. Textron Specialized Vehicles has received six reports of cross pins that have come loose or fallen out.

Liability For Snowmobile Accidents
Snowmobiles can pose a serious risk of injury and death for riders. According to Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, “Each year snowmobile accidents produce approximately 200 deaths and 14,000 injuries. Excess speed, alcohol, driver inexperience, and poor judgment are the leading causes of accidents.” There are a number of mechanical failures that could also cause a snowmobile accident.
- Faulty or worn-out brakes could cause a crash, especially on steep or icy terrain.
- Electrical issues with the battery could lead to a sudden loss of power.
- The drive belt failing on snowmobiles can lead to a loss of power transmission.
Companies that manufacture snowmobiles have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must follow all guidelines set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. If a snowmobile has a design defect, this could form the basis of a strict liability claim. Design defects are inherent to a product and exist before it is manufactured. This could include instances where a snowmobile has faulty brakes that are likely to malfunction. It is important that certain steps are taken after any snowmobile accident.
- Victims should seek medical treatment.
- A police report of the accident should be created.
- Evidence related to the accident should be preserved.
- An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.
It can be hard to know where to begin after a snowmobile accident. Victims often suffer very serious and life-changing injuries. It is common for survivors to need to take extensive periods of time away from work. Any person injured in a snowmobile accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
