HUNTLEY, ILLINOIS (February 27, 2026)—Two people were seriously injured in a Huntley truck accident on the Jane Adams Memorial Tollway.

Illinois State Police are saying that the collision took place around 4:30 AM on Thursday. A semi-trailer truck and a passenger vehicle were involved in a collision for undetermined reasons.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims. Two people were taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley to receive treatment.

Another person was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for Illinois Truck Accidents

Truck drivers must obtain a commercial license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. According to 625 ILCS 5/11-710, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” There are many reasons that commercial trucks can be particularly dangerous.

  • Commercial trucks have large blind spots that can obscure the presence of smaller vehicles.
  • Commercial trucks can weigh 80,000 pounds and be dangerous even at lower speeds.
  • Commercial trucks have a wide turning radius and are more likely to be involved in side-impact collisions.
  • Commercial trucks take much longer to bring to a safe stop in the event of an emergency.

If a truck driver failed to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Truck drivers must operate at a safe speed and follow distance to avoid colliding with any vehicle ahead of them. They must also check their blind spots before changing lanes. But far too often this does not happen, and it is ordinary people who pay for these mistakes with their bodies and lives.

Common Injuries Associated With Truck Accidents

Commercial trucks account for a relatively small portion of the total vehicles on the roadway. But they are still involved in a high number of collisions. According to the IIHS, “Truck braking capability can be a factor in truck crashes. Loaded tractor-trailers require 20%-40% more distance than cars to stop, and the discrepancy is greater on wet and slippery roads or with poorly maintained brakes. Truck driver fatigue is also a known crash risk.” Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

It can be hard to know where to begin after any truck accidents. Victims are often left with catastrophic injuries that require them to take extensive periods of time away from work. Unfortunately, truck companies will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their drivers causes a major accident. They are more likely to blame the victim or other third parties. It is important that victims of truck accidents understand they do have legal options. They are able to seek some measure of accountability for a wrongful death claim.
