20’ and 24’ Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders Recalled Because the Locking Mechanism Can Malfunction

Werner Issues Recall For 20’ and 24’ Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders Over Fall Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (August 19, 2025) – Werner has issued a recall for the 20’ and 24’ Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders because they can pose a serious fall hazard for users.

The recall was issued on August 14, 2025. Roughly 122,250 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the ladder’s locking mechanism may malfunction and become jammed. This could cause the ladder to collapse and fall over, throwing the user off in the process.

Werner has received 18 reports of people falling from the ladders. This led to 14 injuries that resulted in bruising, head injuries, and fractures.

The Werner 20’ and 24’ Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders were manufactured in China and could be purchased at Home Depot stores nationwide and online.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Ladders

Companies that create ladders and other consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are reasonably safe. They must perform as intended and sufficiently warn consumers about non-obvious hazards. There are numerous ways that a ladder could potentially be dangerous.

  • Unstable Base: a ladder may lack any type of grippy material at the base, thereby making it more likely to slip out under the user.
  • Poor Materials: A ladder may be constructed from weak materials that are more likely to break.
  • Improper Locking: Standing ladders may not have sufficient locking mechanisms. This could cause a ladder to inadvertently collapse.

When a company creates a product that is unreasonably dangerous or likely to fail, this could form the basis of a strict product liability claim. Any person injured by a defective ladder may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.

Preventing Consumer Products From Becoming Dangerous

Companies that create consumer products must take certain measures to ensure that those products are not dangerous. This is particularly important for ladders given the inherent risks associated with falling. Falls are one of the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries. What follows are just a few of the steps that can be taken to prevent ladders and other consumer products from becoming hazards.

  • Compliance: One of the easiest ways to avoid creating dangerous products is to comply with all safety standards set by the CSPC and other organizations.
  • Testing: Every consumer product should be rigorously tested in all of the ways that it is likely to be used and even misused.
  • Recalls: When a company learns that their product could be dangerous, they should recall that product as soon as possible.

It can be hard to know what to do after being injured by a ladder or other product. Victims are often left with serious injuries and may need to take long periods of time away from work. This can be extremely disruptive to a person’s life. Any person injured by a faulty consumer product may be able to seek some measure of justice through a product liability claim.
