WorkPro Momentum Office Chairs Recalled Due To Fall Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (January 19, 2025) – WorkPro Momentum Office Chairs by Veyer have been recalled because they can cause users to inadvertently fall.

The recall was issued on January 16, 2025. Around 64,000 units were sold.

According to the recall notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the bolts that connect the back of the chair can fail. This can create a fall hazard for users.

The recalled WorkPro Momentum Office Chairs were sold in a black model and a gray model and have a metal frame. There are two model numbers associated with the recall.

  • (model number 8517865)
  • (model number 2864384)

Consumers can locate the model number by looking underneath the seat cushion. Veyer has received seven reports of people falling out of the chairs. There have been two injuries reported thus far.

Liability for Injuries Caused by Office Chairs

Many people are seriously injured after falling out of chairs every year. Many of the victims are children. According to one study in Ambulatory Pediatrics, “There were an estimated 40 650 high chair-related injuries (95% confidence interval [CI], 32 657-48 643) to children 3 years old and younger treated in hospital emergency departments in the US during the 5-year study period.” But adults also routinely fall out of chairs as well. There could be a number of defects with a chair that may have caused someone to inadvertently fall over.

  • A chair may have weak joints or loose screws that may fail under a person’s weight.
  • A chair may have cracked or split materials that can compromise its structural integrity.
  • A chair may have improper tilt mechanisms that could cause the user to recline or tip back suddenly.
  • A chair may have improper attachment of casters or wheels.

Companies that manufacture chairs have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe and compliant with regulations. If a chair has any type of defect that contributed to an accident, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. There are several types of defects that could give rise to a product liability claim. For example, a chair may have inherent design defects that could cause it to become unstable. People who fall over in chairs tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations

It could be hard to know where to begin if you’ve been injured by any type of furniture. The first thing that victim should do is seek medical support. Many of the injuries associated with a chair fall may not be immediately obvious. This is particularly true if a person happens to injure their back or hips. After a person has had their injuries assessed by a medical professional, they should seek legal guidance. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
