YaFiti White Dressers Recalled Over Entrapment and Tip-Over Hazard

Recall Issued For YaFiti 12-Drawer White Dressers Because They May Tip Over and Seriously Injure or Kill Small Children

YaFiti White Dressers Recalled Over Entrapment and Tip-Over Hazard

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 29, 2025) – YaFiti 12-Drawer White Dressers have been recalled because they violate federal safety standards and pose a tip-over and entrapment risk for young children.

The recall was issued on June 18, 2025. Roughly 6,000 units were sold prior to the recall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the YaFiti 12-Drawer White Dressers may become unstable if they are not properly anchored to a wall. This may lead to the dressers tipping over and injuring a child.

Moreover, the recalled dressers violate federal safety standards set by the STURDY Act. There have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Many children have been seriously injured by dressers every year. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “between 2000 and 2018, there were 459 reported tip-over-related deaths involving children 17 years old and younger. Ninety-three percent of those child-specific incidents involved children five years old and younger. In more than half of the 459 child fatalities (55 percent), the child was crushed by the weight of the television, furniture, or appliance.” Several measures should be taken under the STURDY Act to prevent dressers from becoming dangerous.

  • Stability Standards: Dressers and clothing storage units must remain sturdy even when they are being climbed on by a child weighing 60 lbs.
  • Clear Labeling: Dressers must properly warn consumers about the dangers posed by tip-over accidents.
  • Scope: The dressers must remain stable even if all drawers are opened simultaneously.

Companies that create consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. They must be safe even when they are misused. It is commonly known that children have a propensity to climb on furniture. This is one of the reasons that the STURDY Act was passed in the first place. If a company fails to comply with the STURDY Act, this could form the basis of a strict liability claim if a child is injured by a falling dresser. Many companies have faced lawsuits after their dressers injured children in tip-over accidents. This includes IKEA, which paid a $46 million settlement after a young boy died in a dresser tip-over accident. Dresser tip-over accidents can cause very serious injuries.

  • Broken Bones: The weight of a dresser drawer can easily break the bones of a young child.
  • Head Injuries: The bones in the heads of younger children are not as sturdy or well developed as those in adults. A dresser fall can cause major head trauma.
  • Asphyxiation: The weight of a dresser on the chest of a child may result in positional asphyxia and death.

Tip-over accidents involving dressers are often highly preventable. Part of the problem is that many larger dressers are not properly anchored to the wall. But that is only a small part of the problem. The larger issue is that companies fail to warn consumers that this procedure should take place to begin with. The family of any child injured by a dresser may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A product liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
