Yamaha PA-300C AC Adaptors Recalled Over Fire and Burn Hazard

The recall was issued on May 8, 2025. Roughly 37,400 units were sold.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the AC power adapters can overheat and ignite.

Yamaha has received four reports of the adaptors burning or smoking. The products were initially manufactured in China.

Liability for Injuries Involving Consumer Products

Many people have been injured due to consumer products that have inadvertently become fire hazards. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “In 2021 emergency rooms nationwide treated an estimated 193,450 burn injuries involving many types of consumer products, from kitchen and cooking products to fireworks and space heaters. In recognition of Burn Awareness Week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges consumers to be vigilant about fire safety and to check for product recalls.” There are a number of potential defects with a consumer product that could make it a fire hazard.

  • Faulty wiring or loose connections
  • Overloaded circuits
  • Improper grounding
  • Poor heat dissipation
  • Thermal runway
  • Improper spacing of internal components

Companies that make consumer products have a legal obligation to ensure that those products are safe. This includes abiding by all design requirements set forth by agencies like the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This is particularly important for products that have any type of electrical components. Even a seemingly small issue can potentially lead to a fire hazard. It is important that certain actions are taken after any injury involving a consumer product.

  • Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
  • All medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • It should be determined if the product involved was on any recall list.
  • An experienced product liability attorney should be contacted.

It can be difficult to know where to begin if you’ve been injured by a consumer product. Unlike motor vehicle accidents, there isn’t an obvious party who can simply be blamed for what happened. But the fact of the matter is that companies that create consumer goods can be held accountable when those products malfunction and lead to injury.
